This is the Sixth issue of the ATM series which started in 2001 and dedicated to the historical locomotives in Spain.

In 1887 the Maquinista Terrestre y Maritima constructed 3 steam locomotives for the Sarria to Barcelona railway (S.B.), with the numbers 10, 11 and 12. Some years later, when this railway line was electrified, the locomotives were sold to the Mollet to Caldas railway, where they acquired the new numeration 5, 6 and 7.

In 1941 they finally went to RENFE with a change in the numeration 0232 to 0234. They are steam locomotives 030 (with 3-connected axles) and, very important, they are the first constructed in Spain for a line of 1674 mm.

Two of the locomotives received special names; Caldas and Palau. This last one is the subject of the current ATM issue.

The locomotive Caldas (S.B. 12, Mollet to Caldas 6 and RENFE 0233) was in service until 1972 and now is exhibited in the Museo del Ferrocarril (Railway museum) in Vilanova i la Geltru (Barcelona).

The Palau locomotive (S.B. 10, Mollet to Caldas 5 and RENFE 0232) worked as a mining train for the Asturian company Hunosa, and from 1993 it was put on show in the Museo de la Mineria y de la Industria, (Mining and Industry museum) in El Entrego, Asturias.
