The International Exhibition EXPO'98 took place in Lisbon under the motto " Oceans, a patrimony for the future ". This show, which was the last World Fair of the 20th century, coincided with the 500th anniversary of the discovery of the maritime way to India by the Portuguese navigator Vasco de Gama.

Lisbon Exhibition, which was opened from May 22nd to September 30th, meant a clear call to the future of the oceans, the problems due to the exploitation of their natural resources and the dangers stalking the great masses of water.
