First ATM issue in Catalan
language (excepting the words CORREOS
and ESPAÑA).
The new issue has a very
reduced printing and it had to be used from the 16th December 2002
only in the G.P.O. in Tarragona and its branch offices because
the winner of the competition is from this city.
But from the 28th November
it
was also possible to obtain this ATM through the Philatelic Service
in Madrid (franking balance nr. 0761).

"Pinta
el teu segell" (Draw your own stamp) competition was developed
between November 2001 and April 2002 and was called by the
Departments of Ensenyament i de Cultura de la Generalitat
and the Consorci per a la Normalització Lingüistica,
in collaboration with the
Gremi de Filatelia i Numismatica, l'Organització
pel Multilingüisme and the CCOO and UGT unions.
Two hundred schools from all Catalunya took part in the competition
with more than 12.000 designs from students between 10 and 14 years old.
The short listed works were
shown in the XVII Exposicio i fira del segell, la moneda i el col·leccionisme
(Collecting,
philatelic and numismatic Fair and Exhibition) - Barnafil 2002 celebrated
from 30th April to 5th of May 2002 in the Reials Drassanes
of
Barcelona.

| The
works had to be related with the importance of the languages and the post
office world, showing the slogan "Llengües d'Europa" (European
languages) considering that the contest was a part of the events organized
to celebrate the European languages Year 2001.
The final jury was composed
by organization and collaboration entities with the artists America
Sanchez and Carme Soler Vendrell.
The winner was Nadia
Espinosa Alvarez, from the Primary School in Campclar, Tarragona,
and its design has been used to make-up this ATM issue :
"It is a draw similar
to a tree with a lot of branches, and in all of them you can see the word
Correos
(Post) in different languages. It has a lot of colours and it means that
Correos
is everywhere (...)" |

The 16th of December 2002
was the official public presentation of the new issue in the Pati
Jaume I in the Tarragona City Council. It was organized
by the Consorci per a la Normalitzacio Lingüistica and
the Gremi de Filatelia i Numismatica de Catalunya. The young
girl winner of the scholar competition and many local representatives,
entities and public institutions related with the contest attended the
public presentation.

The adhesive labels of this
model have a cyclical manufacture error. The design move
downwards on each label and jump to the starting point each 21 supports.
