Portugal (2006)
ATM issues  'defende a VIDA, faz o teste do VIH/SIDA'

On October 20th 2006, Correios de Portugal launched a new ATM issue coinciding with the campaign 'Não vivas às escuras'.

“Não vivas às escuras” (Don't live in the dark) is an advertising campaign started in October 2006 and promoted by the Coordenação Nacional para a Infecção VIH/Sida and the Associação Portuguesa da Indústria Farmacêutica, and tries to remind the population that AIDS exists and could be a problem for anyone. It also alerts people on the need to make the test for AIDS available to all people with risky lifestyles.
The campaign continues until December 5th, 2006 and includes a TV spot and 120 hoardings distributed throughout the country, all with a motto similar to this one used on the ATM issues, ' 'Não vivas às escuras! Faz o teste VIH/SIDA'. (Don't live in the dark ! Take the HIV/AIDS test !)

In Portugal there are about 32.000 people infected by the Human immunodeficiency virus (HIV), a retrovirus that causes Acquired Immune Deficiency Syndrome or AIDS.
There also exists similar campaigns in Spain

The 2 new self-adhesive labels, one smaller design to be used in the ATM vending machines Amiel, SMD and NewVision Epost, and another large size for the Crouzet machines, have a similar design to the Vasco Marques, with a red ribbon on the left and the text 'defende a VIDA, faz o teste do VIH/SIDA' (Protect the life, take the HIV/AIDS test).
The well-known red ribbon was created by Visual AIDS in 1991, a group formed by artists in New York with the objective of remembering and honouring friends and colleagues who died or fell ill from AIDS, and nowadays has become the world-wide symbol of solidarity and fights against the disease.

The supports have been manufactured in offset, again by the French Imprimerie de La Poste.

In some Crouzet type rolls there appears a discontinuous and irregular pink-red line in the bottom of the design every 18 labels.
This type of errors also appears in the last ATM French issues, all manufactured by the Imprimerie de La Poste.

The face values that could be obtained from the Amiel, SMD and NewVision Epost vending machines, at the date of issue, and which make up sets are: 0.30, 0.48, 0.52, 0.60 and 0.75 EUR and CORREIO AZUL 0.45 and 1.80 EUR, although the later use in 2007 makes the existence of other set values possible, according to the next table:

For the Crouzet machines, the sets are composed of the basic franking values: 0.30, (0.48), 0.52, 0.60 and 0.75 EUR and CORREIO AZUL 0.45 and 1.80 EUR, and also from the latest change of tariffs in 2007: 0.30, (0.50), 0.52, 0.61 and 0.75 EUR and CORREIO AZUL 0.45 and 1.85 EUR.

The 0.30 EUR and CORREIO AZUL 0.45 EUR values can be obtained directly from the vending machine, whilst the rest of the values can be obtained using the scales and selecting the destination for the shipment, or keying the amount, starting from a minimum value of 0.45 EUR. (There are a few machines programmed with a minimum value of 0.10 EUR, both for normal or Correio Azul).
In all cases it is possible to get smaller values than the minimum established, starting from 0.01 EUR, when the equipment does not have enough coins for change.

The receipts in the Crouzet machines are issued on the same self-adhesive labels used for the ATM issue.

The Crouzet vending machines are always installed inside the post offices, and they are being replaced gradually by a new model of vending machine from the NewVision company. Most of the machines in service issue ATMs with the face value printed in black, although a few print them normally in blue-violet.
